My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Hemel Hempstead Town division, which includes the wards of Apsley, Boxmoor, and central Hemel Hempstead. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
I represent the interests of around 12,500 electors, and their families, in my division. I work closely with local Dacorum Borough Councillors, with our local MP Mike Penning, and with several active residents’ and community groups in the areas I represent.
Residents are welcome to raise any issue with me, at any time, whether by e-mail, letter or telephone. I will always deal promptly with casework issues. I look to engage wherever possible with local residents and community groups and to assist where I can. Feedback from residents is absolutely vital to the work I do for you.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.
My County Council responsibilities
I currently serve on one Cabinet Panel (Public Health and Localism), and on one statutory committee (Audit, as vice-chair). The Cabinet Panel is cross-party, its role is to make recommendations to the Cabinet member with responsibility for Public Health and Localism.

Personal, professional and political details
I was born and educated in Manchester before completing a degree in Philosophy, History and Classics at Oxford University. Since then my career has mainly been in the development of computer software and solutions, in the private sector. For most of my working life I have been running my own business offering computer systems consultancy and software development for scores of companies of varying sizes in many business sectors. In recent years most of my work has been in the Health arena, in Service Management, and in Construction. I have lived in Hemel Hempstead for over 25 years.
In 2007 I realised that I had a lot to contribute to the public sector, and took on the role of a Borough Councillor. My background in IT and Finance is proving very useful in finding ways to improve our services while maintaining or reducing costs.
I am married, and I have a son and 2 step-daughters, one of whom has given me 4 granddaughters and a grandson. My wife, Colette, is also a County Councillor. My hobbies include growing my own food, skiing, and expanding my knowledge.
