Personal Register of Interests
My front-line role
I am the Conservative County Councillor for Potters Bar East division. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.
I represent the interests of the residents of Potters Bar East on Hertfordshire County Council. I also serve as the District Councillor on Hertsmere Borough Council for Potters Bar Furzefield ward.
I look to engage wherever possible with local residents and community groups to assist where I can. Feedback from residents is absolutely vital to the work I do for you, and I am always happy to hear about issues by telephone, letter or email.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the link for more details of the scheme and details of the applications I have previously agreed and declined can be found in the Locality Budget section below.
My County Council responsibilities
I joined the Council in 2013 and currently serve on the Community Safety & Planning and Highways & Waste Management Cabinet Panels.
Roles on outside bodies
I am on the Potters Bar Town Twinning Association and the 60+ Club of Potters Bar and South Mimms ETC.
Personal, professional and political details
I was born in Finsbury Park North London and went to the state secondary schools and left at the age of 15. On leaving school I had various jobs but once I settled down I then spent 32 years in the fashion industry from selling fabric to selling fashions across Europe to a director of a multimillion pound company.
Once the factories in UK started to close down as they were not able to compete with the Far East I left the industry and started to drive a private hire car for Potters Bar station cars and after 13 years I still really enjoy it.
I became the Mayor of Hertsmere in 2011-2012 and during my time as Mayor managed to raise £37,000 for Watford Peace Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
My wife June is behind me all the way. I have 2 children, Yolande a BBC Middle East correspondent who has spent a long time in Gaza, and Andrew who has a Head Hunting business which covers Europe, USA and South America sourcing staff for big advertising agencies.
