My front-line role
I am the Conservative Party County Councillor for Hatfield Rural division. The section on the link provides more information on local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.
As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details; scheme
My County Council responsibilities
Having been elected in 2013 I serve on the Policy, Resources and Transformation Cabinet Panel and Children’s Panel. Whenever I can, I engage in the work of other areas of business, substituting for the Development Panel and for the Lee Valley Regional Park. I have engaged with the scrutiny process serving on ‘Topic Groups’.
Roles on outside bodies
I am a board member of B3 Living Housing Association, a director of Badger Investments, President of the Lee Valley Male Voice Choir, and an Ambassador of a national charity ‘teens unite – fighting cancer’.
Personal, professional and political details
I represent the interests of the residents of Hatfield Rural on Hertfordshire County Council. I also serve as a borough Councillor on Broxbourne Borough Council for Goffs Oak Ward, which falls just outside my County Council Division. I am also the Leader of Broxbourne Borough Council.
I work closely with the Parish Councils of Northaw Cuffley, North Mymms, Essendon and Hatfield Town Council to ensure their views are taken into account; I am in contact with both Grant Shapps MP and Charles Walker MP, in whose constituencies our community lies.
I look to engage wherever possible with local residents and community groups to assist where I can. Feedback from residents is absolutely vital to the work I do, and I am always happy to hear about issues by telephone, letter or email. I hold a regular drop in surgery at the parish office in Maynard Place, Cuffley on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 5-6pm.
I have lived in Hertfordshire for over 30 years; my two daughters and two sons were born and educated in the county. My wife and eldest son are both teachers in the county. I retired in 2006 after 30 years in public service and continued my interest in the community. I was Chair of Governors of a Primary and Secondary School for many years. I was elected as a borough Councillor in 2006 and a County Councillor in 2013.
