Every County Councillor has a Locality Budget to spend on community projects in our respective divisions. Please let me know if I can help in any way with a grant although I can't promise to support everything. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined. We also have £90,000 to spend on Highways projects.

My front-line role

I am a conservative County Councillor and represent Letchworth East and Baldock town wards. I was first elected 2005 and re-elected in 2009.

My primary role is to help and represent the interests of all 14,000 residents within the County and District Council wards for which I have been elected. I also make representations on behalf of local residents to our local MP, Oliver Heald, by attending his surgeries on their behalf. I have lived in Letchworth Garden City and Baldock for 40 years

Residents who wish to raise any issues with me are welcome to do so at any time by letter, phone, or email. I always take interest in my casework and deal with them as promptly as I can.

My County Council responsibilities

In May 2013 I was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Development Control Committee. I also sit on the Highways and Waste Management Cabinet Panel. Previously I sat on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee which has general oversight of all the work of the County Council and was also a member of the Waste Management Cabinet Panel which makes decisions on how we dispose of Hertfordshire's waste. I have served for seven years on the Highways and Transport Cabinet Panel. I am currently Chairman of the Highways Joint Members Panel which has representation from both the County Council and North Herts District Council.

Roles on outside bodies

I am Vice-Chairman of the London Luton Airport Consultative Committee (LLACC). I have served on North Herts District Council (NHDC) from 1991-95 and 1999 to the present day. I had the honour to become the Chairman of NHDC in 2002-03.

I serve at NHDC on the Planning, Overview and Scrutiny, Standards and Licensing and I am Chairman of the Baldock Area Committee. I have been a school governor for 28 years. Six years at Grange and Northfields schools in Letchworth and to the present day at Hartsfield JMI in Baldock. I am a member of Baldock Community Centre, Baldock Local History Society, the Baldock Society, St Mary's Parochial Church Council and lastly the neighbourhood watch.

Personal and political.

I am married to Mary and we have six children all have flown the nest. I have a private Pilot licence and my sport is flying gliders and I am the current Chairman of my local club. In my early days I was a gliding instructor at RAF Henlow and RAF Halton. I recently retired as a professional photographer.

I have been a member of the Conservative Party since 1986, but I have always considered my prime responsibilities lay in serving my local community as I was brought up to do.
