My front-line role

I am the Conservative Councillor for the Hemel Hempstead North West division, which includes Chaulden, Warners End and Gadebridge. I am also the Executive Member for Highways and Waste Management. The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.

As the county councillor for Hemel Hempstead North West, I represent the interests of the 14,000 residents of these communities on the County Council. I work closely with the Dacorum Borough Councillors for the same areas; our Member of Parliament, Mike Penning, who lives in Hemel Hempstead; plus active residents’ and community groups such as the Warners End and Boxmoor Neighbourhood Association, plus the Dacorum Neighbourhood Action group for the area.

Residents who wish to raise any issue with me are welcome to do so at any time, whether by e-mail, letter or telephone. I will always deal promptly with casework issues.

As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget to spend on community projects in the division. Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of applications I have previously agreed and declined.

My County Council responsibilities

I am currently the Executive Member for Highways. I was Deputy Executive Member for Education and Skills from 2009, supporting the Executive Member in all aspects of the portfolio. Cabinet is responsible at law for most of the council’s policy decisions, but these are made in the light of recommendations from a range of cross-party Cabinet Panels.

My role involves me in a range of partnership networks in Hertfordshire.

The Council’s corporate policies are set out in the Corporate Plan. The plan sets out our ambition for Hertfordshire to be a county of opportunity for all its residents, through excellent education, opportunities for business and economic growth, an excellent environment in which to live and a good quality of life for all our residents.

Roles on outside bodies

I have a particular interest in education and school governance and have served as the Chairman of the GovernorLine Advisory Board and am currently a director of the National Governors Association.

I also serve in a personal capacity as a Governor of The Cavendish School and Aycliffe Drive Primary School, both in Hemel Hempstead. I am also a trustee of Dacorum Sports Trust which operates sports and leisure facilities within the Borough.

Personal, professional and political details

I was born in London, moving to Hertfordshire at the age of five. I started my own business which continues to operate in the area and beyond for the supply, installation and operation of audio-visual, sound and lighting equipment in a range of environments. I am a borough councillor in Hemel Hempstead for the Grovehill ward having been first elected in 2007.
