My front-line role

I am the Conservative County Councillor for Hertford All Saints division.  The ‘Your Community’ section provides local service information, news, events, and contacts about the area.

I represent the interests of the 13,000 residents in the communities of Hertford Bengeo, Hertford and Kingsmead.

As is the case with every County Councillor, I have a locality budget to spend on community projects in the division.  Follow the links for more details of the scheme and details of the applications I have previously agreed and declined can be found in the Locality Budget section below.

My County Council responsibilities

I joined the Council in 2013 and I am Deputy Executive Member for Resources & Performance. I also serve on the Childrens Services Cabinet Panel, Pensions Committee and Employment Committee.

Roles on outside bodies

I am also a Hertford Town Councillor and currently chair their Finance Committee. Together with another Town Councillor I founded Hertford Entrepreneurs Network which aims to help local people grow their own business and provides annual awards. I am also a member of Imperial College Industrial Advisory Board for Mechanical Engineering.

Personal, professional and political details

I qualified from London University as physicist and went on to obtain a PhD in materials science. After an early career as a scientist I founded and built a commercial laboratory in Hertford, the Materials Engineering Research Laboratory Ltd. with venture capital funding. This business continues to provide significant employment in Hertfordshire. I subsequently qualified as an investment manager and founded a venture capital company. I have been an active investor in early stage technology businesses, serving on about 20 boards over the past decade. I have lived in Hertford for 35 years and have three children who grew up here and are all now adults.
