My front-line role

I am the Labour County Councillor for Hitchin North Division which covers the Bearton and Walsworth District Council wards.  I am also the Labour District Councillor for Bearton Ward in Hitchin.  The Your community section provides local service information, news, events and contacts about the area.

I represent the interests of around 11,500 electors as well as their children and will happily help whenever possible on a wide range of issues including highways, refuse and recycling, education, adult social care and all the other services provided by the District and County councils.

Every County Councillor has a locality budget to spend on community projects in their division.  Follow the links for more details of the scheme and  Details of received applications which have previously been agreed or declined.  If you would like to apply for funding do please contact me first by phone or email so that we can discuss what you have in mind.

My County Council Responsibilities

I was first elected as a County Councillor in September 2013 following the death of my husband David who was previously the Councillor for Hitchin North.  I currently sit on the Policy, Resources and Performance Cabinet Panel, the Customer Service, Performance and Libraries Cabinet Panel and the Scrutiny Committee.

Personal, Professional and Political Details

As well as my County Council responsibilities I teach, support and mentor local government councillors and officers all over the country mostly through leadership courses.  I often work with cross-party groups.

In my political role I currently represent the Eastern Region on the executive boards of both the Association of Labour Councillors and the Local Government Association (LGA) Labour Group.  At the LGA I also serve on the Improvement and Innovation Board.

I am Deputy Leader of the Labour Group and main opposition on North Herts District Council, and a Director of Hitchin Initiative which seeks to support, enhance and improve the community and commercial life of the town.

I am a mother and step-mother to 6 adult children, have many grandchildren and when I have any time I enjoy caring for them, cooking, baking and travelling.
